Arranging in Vessels: Foundations

A deep dive into composition, structure, and mechanics, this class explores the art of vase arranging. You’ll learn how to create loose, garden-inspired arrangements with movement and depth, using foundational mechanics like floral frogs, chicken wire, and natural armatures. Perfect for anyone wanting to build confidence in arranging flowers with ease and intention.

Included

  • A demonstration of our method for creating intuitive, easeful arrangements, including ways to set yourself up for success with diverse vessels and mechanics.

  • Harvest your own materials—let the garden guide your inspiration.

  • Take home your arrangement in a simple glass vase or jar, or bring a favourite vessel from home.

  • Use of our floral tools and supplies.

Materials

Each session draws from the shifting abundance of the season:

  • June: A first taste of summer—cosmos, calendula, forget-me-nots, stock, and the drama of peonies and early dahlias.

  • July: The garden at full tilt—lush, rolling blooms in peak abundance. Delicate stems of foxglove, cosmos, and poppies bloom beside explosions of dahlias, sunflowers, and zinnias.

  • August: Harvest season—saturated colours, fruiting tomato vines, blackberry branches, and a riot of dahlias, snapdragons, zinnias, celosia.

  • September: A golden finale—deep-hued dahlias, rudbeckia, sunflowers, seedpods, grasses, and lavender anemones.

Whether you’re new to arranging or looking to deepen your craft, this workshop is for all skill levels.
